BP On the road again next season: Some monster trips involved, and it starts with a real biggy.  Away to Tynedale on September 6th.  This is an historic and histrionic occasion... Lets go!

I emailed Tynedale RFC earlier, asking for a bit of travel advice...

Hello there, and congratulations on your promotion to National Division 2.

My name is Andrew Harvey and I am treasurer of 'The Boarding Party' the supporters club of Mount's Bay RFC.  As I'm sure you're aware MBRFC were champions of National 3 south this season.  We followed our club around the south of England last season, and are proud of the fact that for every game last season at least some of us managed to attend. (Bear in mind, that last season our nearest away fixture was almost three hours travel away!)

Having seen our fixture list this season, we've discovered that out first trip is a real 'proper job' excursion-and-a-half to your good selves.

So, we come to the reason for this e-mail (apart from to say hello, of course) and that is for some advice of how to get to you.  We mini-bussed each time last season, that is probably a non-starter.  The trains out of Cornwall are massively expensive, slow, and unreliable; so it looks like we'll be flying from Newquay to Newcastle.  How easy is it to get from Newcastle Airport to Corbridge by train. I see from your web-site you're very close to the local railway station.

Many of us have never visited the North-East and we'd dearly like to change that, hopefully early in September!  Any travel advice you could spare would be most gratefully received.

Thank you for your time
Andrew 'TDH'

Two thankyous in one post - outstanding

NB, what have we talked about regarding pluralisation?

For any burglars interested, it would appear that Newlyn will be devoid of residents that day. Mind you, if you really want a clapped out Betamax VCR & some rather tatty fluffy dice, then you'd save a lot of time & bother by logging on to Freecycle....

By rail- cheapest I could find was £80 return.

By air £96 to get up their Saturday morning and to get back Sunday mid-day

Is this some kind of bizarre euphemism? I'm not entirely certain I want to "get up their Saturday morning", much less remain there 'til mid Sunday having shelled out 96 notes for the privilege! smile/eek.gif

On a more practical note, flying doesn't seem to be a bad option.

Well b****r it then, if I can't go to Redruth then I'm up for flying to Tynedale.  If there's a list, I'd like to be put on it.

Sorted!  Sleeper train Mon night, London travelling up to Newcastle Tues, depart Newcastle for Norway mini cruise Tues evening, come back Fri, stay overnight somewhere in the region of Tynedale, watch a cracking game of rugby Sat, back down London way Sun to get sleeper home. The only disappointment is that we play Blaydon away a few weeks after so hard to fit in another cruise in that space of time.

Flying seems like the only realistic option in terms of travel time and cost and we need to book early though possibly at the end of the month. Unless anyone else has got any other ideas!  If you are interested please post your interest and we will sort the rest out at the AGM on the 28th May.
Currently flights are as follows

Sat 6th outward journey 7:55am arrive 9:30am-£39
Sunday 7th return journey 1:50pm arrive newquay 3:55pm-£57

We then need overnight accommodation which Merlin is looking into ( Travel Inn at the airport £72 for twin room with full English so £36 each. I am sure Merlin will find something cheaper, but this is a rough guide)and transport too and from the airport by either taxi or hire a car depending on how many go. (Payment up front on this one)

I'm hoping to hear back from Tynedale RFC about transport (see above e-mail).  The train may be an idea as TRFC is next door to the station.  They are almost 20 miles from Newcastle so a taxi may be rather pricey!

Just been checking air prices

From Newquay=£97 return with South West Airlines

From Bristol=£39.99 return with Easy jet (Getting to Bristol and parking if there with 10 of us would still work out a lot cheaper) All depends on whether we want to go from Newquay or Bristol. With Overnight stay and taxi's I wreckon £120 ish all in without beer.
