Thanks for that QM but not sure the Black Bull would choose your "lunch to die for" statement as a motto - sounds more as though you'd have a meal there and end up in the local hospital. Going to have to try it out now to find out which way you meant!!! |

QM has, of course, left out a 't' - it is actually 'a lunch to diet for', i.e. you get plenty. QM, I didn't make the trip up last season when Caldy played there - probably too busy trying to assemble our 4th team. I did watch the game at our place though and you did look a fairly impressive outfit, as the final table proved; I was told you facilities were equally so. Did you make it down to Caldy? I pose the question only so I can post a couple more photographs. View from the club over the Dee to Wales: ![]() Sevens training At the club: --Last edited by DaveH on 2008-05-20 20:41:37 --

Dave, When I was at Sheffield Uni back in the dawns of time, we played in Caldy Sevens, reaching the final of the plate competition. Thoroughly enjoyable experience and my only visit to the club. I live 250 miles from Corbridge so am an intermittent attendee, although I was at the Fylde game on a bitterly cold afternoon. I think the biggest issue facing Tyne next season is reconciling the desire to remain an amateur club with the demands of some pretty challenging travelling, Admittedly some of the players are paid by Falcons for playing rugby, but the majority of the players (and the coach) do it for the love of the game. Success breeds success and a number of players end up there hoping to catch the eye of the Falcons but I think Tyne would be happy simply to survive in ND2 this year. Having said that, they may spring a few surprises along the way and if Falcons do not need Rob Miller and Micky Young, there are some pretty tasty (if young) half backs to put out. The reason I am on this board is that I spent time at Cable & Wireless college at Porthcurno and played rugby whilst down there, so I thought I might find out about some of the old faces on here. They will all be spectators now I guess. |

Very pleased to see you on here QM, if you read some of the threads we do tend to wonder a bit, but most posters are more than welcome, it's always good to here the views of others and any information about other clubs is always good.

Wander is about right for many of the threads. So they should. I would just like to re-iterate here just what a good job The Answer did in running this forum. Cheers Jamie. QM, where are you living now then? 250 miles - could be Sheffield still - or the Shetlands. Welcome by the way to the Mounts Bay forum. There was something of a tie-up for several years between Sheffield Uni and the Caldy Sevens. Normally the Uni came with a decent team.

QM--is there still a marvellous curry house attached to Corbridge station; info like this will be priceless for the Boarding Party as it ventures into pastures new?

If it's still there, we will have to steam in!.

I expect the entire boarding party who make the trip will be railroaded into going to the curry house, though I doubt the bowels will be stationery after. (One for BoP.)

I'm not aware of a curry house there - it's tucked away about half a mile from the centre of the village over the River Tyne. Within a 10 minute walk you can find a wide variety of hostelries and eating establishments. It is the close proximity of the river that led to the ground being flooded to a level of 4 or 5 feet a couple of years ago. So perhaps waders might be a sensible precaution? Just for clarification, any criticism of either quality or quantity of lunch at the Black Bull would be totally undeserved. Its main failing is its popularity, which can lead to queues, though mostly on Sunday lunchtimes. |

Too early for the boarding party then. Hangovers are longer lasting than that where they come from. BoP, I had a different answer pencilled in for you. (Ap Pen is, of course, to translate from the Welsh 'son of Pen'.)
