Picking up a thread on the Pirates site as to where the Cornish clubs will finish this coming season.

Pirates  4th Saints to go back up, Exeter second, Doncaster third.

Lanson to stay up just.

Redruth to go up

Bay, depends on the opening games, looking at the fixtures we HAVE to do well in the first six games as these we should win, if we do that then top five should be about right.

I have to say that I haven't given it much thought. I think, as H&J says, getting off to a good start is important. I shall tell you my predictions next May!

This is a copy of what I posted on the CP's site. I'll stand by it!

Here's my go at being Mystic Meg:-

Pirates 3rd / 4th Saints will surely be straight back up with Exeter 2nd

CABs 12th / 13th relegated, too big a step up I think

Redruth 2nd. Now Esher and CABs have naffed off I think they'll get to at least the play-off if they can beat Henley

Mounts Bay 4th behind Havant, Lydney and London Scottish

Merlin, it's good that you have mentioned LC.

Is anyone going to hazard a guess for the other Cornish Clubs?

Penryn to turn the tide maybe.

Incidently. and here is another useless fact for you, it is believed by many people that it was Hoylake where King Canute set out to prove that even he could not stop the incoming tide. This lead, of course, to that well known phrase or saying 'paddle your own Canute'. BOP will no doubt know that I have pinched this saying from '1066 and all that' (W.C. Seller & R.J. Yeatman).

I would give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

It would be fantastic to see Mounts Bay finish as high as second place in their first season.  I think it's possible to get there too.

In my opinion last season they took their foot off the 'gas' too often last season..  It wasn't that much of a problem as Bay were so much better than most of the opposing teams.  They can't get away with doing that forever.

I watched Bay batter Oxford Harlequins last season, only for the 'quins to pull back to 34-34.  That was painful to watch,  the last fifteen minutes!

If Bay finish better than mid-table they will have done very well.

And Falmouth and St. Austell? I know this started as Cornish Nat prediction, but it seems right to expand it.

WHAT ABOUT A PREDICTION LEAGUE BASED ON CORNISH CLUBS?
If anyone can be bothered to collate all the Cornish clubs (and I include London Cornish in this), and work out a points system (giving say bonus points for estimating tries scored and team points for & against - have you got that) I shall put up a bottle of whisk(e)y as first prize. If there are enough entrants, second and third prizes of bottles of wine.

Maybe it should be resticted to members of the Boarding Party, for several reasons, none of which have come to me yet.

Incidentally where is wino?

Addendum: After speaking to a Boarding Party Official (who did sound as if he had quaffed a drink or two): If anyone wants to base it differently, and is prepared to run it, I will put the Whisky and wine up as the prizes.

This sounds interesting Dave, what kind of format could it take?
Would it be a case of a certain number of fixtures posted and everybody gives their predictions, maybe on some spread betting thingy?
I've previously only been involved in fantasy soccer, based on individual player performances.

TDH,

Fantasy? BOP has told all about your fantasies, and I don't remember him mentioning anything about football.

Big Eddie (whatever happened to Big Eddie? More of him later) set up a prediction league on the Altrincham-Kersal website initially. He moved later on to (and here is where she comes in) Beverley. Last season it was 'North 1 Prophets', based on the results of the games in North 1. I think it was 2 points for a correct result, and bonus points for the correct score. There was a winner each week (each winner getting a polo shirt, bearing the logo 'NORTH 1 PROPHET, The future is not what it used to be'). It was partly to raise some money for 'The Wooden Spoon Society'. Big Eddie (this is the 'more of him') was doing all the organization, but he keeps disappearing, and as yet has not collected any money.

Anyway where were we?  MB prediction league. If we want to get one going in some form or another we need to give it a bit of thought. I was thinking of something fairly straightforward, especially if I do end up running it. Ideas on a post card please.

I would give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

I wouldn't actually know anything about TDH's fantasies, Dave - but I'm certainly growing concerned as to what yours might be!
As to the allegedly bibulous official to whom you spoke, I'm sure it must have been the poor clarity of the phone connection which misled you - I can't believe that any member of The Boarding Party would indulge in the consumption of intoxicating beverages.

A prediction league sounds like a goodun.Does it have to be Whiskey,or can i,sorry the winner chose a preferred tipple ?

It is not necesssary to understand things in order to argue about them.
