TDH,

Speaking to Heino at the meet the players evening he told me this would be his last season. The Pirates will miss him as he has been pretty awesome for a while now.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said but I'm not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant!!

Pirates team/squad v Newbury

Cornish Pirates:
A. Winnan (capt), A Havili, M. Ireland, S. Winn, M. Vakacegu, D. Sanft,
E. Fairhurst, B. Bedes, C. Morgan, B. Cumming, B. Gulliver, H. Seneka
S. Heard, R. Elloway, A. Paver.

Replacements
D. Seal, D. Dawidiuk, M. Burak, I. Motusaga, N. Griffiths, T. Luke, R. McAtee.

Have to say looks like a strong squad. Wonder which ones are being left for us? Probably none knowing our luck.

Looks like the last one on the list in my book should be slipped our way.

Paul Andrew is obviously lined up to play for Bay,back rower Sam Betty may be another but there are 2 others coming back from long term injuries 2nd row Joe Beardshaw and 10/12 Simon Whatling who may want some game time to prove their fitness.

Well send them our way. I think all those positions would fit perfectly at the moment. If there is any movement concerning this I presume we would hear it from the Pirates next week. If we dont hear anything then the loans are a non starter, we shall have to wait and see on that. Be interesting to know who was at training tonight. I will consult my crystal ball later.

So, what happened at training?  Were there kicking practice?

I think I shall stick to what I'm good at and, as soon as I can work out what that is, I shall stick to it!

I see that the Rugby Times predicts Pirates to finish fourth which will set them up nicely for the EDF the following season.

I think 4th is a real possibility IF we hit the ground running and cut out the 'silly' results against the so called 'lesser' sides we could even go higher.
Anything below 4th would be a real disappointment.

The squad looks very good particuilarly the pack. Also 95% of those on the team photo could all play first team rugby, where as looking at the Plymouth squad a number of the squad would struggle at that level. As for Exeter with 49 players in their squad, I just feel sorry for the likes of Jess who this weekend cant even make the squad.
Saying that though I think the pressure will be on for the Pirates to make the top 4 and secure entry to the EDF competition with the premiership clubs.

You can bet Exeter will have 6-10 players out on loan by beginning of Octber. Even with 10-15% out injured 49 is a crazy number to try to coach in any combined way and keep motivate for a season. Look what a shambles the last Lions tour with many of those players hardly getting a game and then not knowing the playing strengths of the man next to them when they eventually did.

Many moons ago I played one entire season for the Pirates whilst living , training and working in Exeter and it wasn't too hard - and the A30 is a hell of a lot better now !

Letter to Mr.Jess perhaps ?

Exeter do a have 2nd team with regular fixtures and to run 2 sides you would need 40-45 players,so may be 49 isn't to excessive.
