Redruth's trip to Cambridge today resulted in all their money & valuables stolen during the first half of their match with Cambridge. They refused to start the second half and the first half result of 30 ~ 0 to Cambridge stands. Wonder what would of happened if the Reds were winning.

being retired give me unlimited opportunity to annoy  & waste any willing persons time

Dear dear me what is our world coming to,if the culprits are found i think 5 mins with both teams front rows should do the trick!.

Surely nothing valuable comes out of Redruth. (Only a joke lads.)

On a more serious note this sort of thing is dreadful. I have been involved in a similar incident, but no one found out that I did it. Not true of course but we did have our valuables nicked several years back.

In the dim distant past when we had to buy our own shirts someone nicked mine out of my bag, after a game. He did ring me the next day to ask if I would wash it. About 15 years later I took the opportunity to pinch about three complete sets, one shirt of which I was modelling at the EDF finals last April.

I would give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

One can hardly blame the Reds for not wanting to continue with the game; personally, I don't think the result should stand under those circumstances.

Shocking behaviour - to be frank it's shameful that a visiting team can't trust security of their hosts.

Is it a coincidence that known felon Lord Archer is one of their sponsors (allegedly), or has been in recent times?

I played there in August and looking back it is the perfect stealing ground as the changing room entrance is well concealed.

I can't see redruth getting away with it. If the score was the other way around would it have been different?

If a replay does go ahead then i think the fair thng to do would be to gift Cambridge 30 points and lay on a free coach to take the supporters up!

The RFU handbook regulation states:
18.2 Abandoned matches:
18.2.2 Other Reasons:
If the referee finds it necessary to abandon a match for any reason other than weather conditions, then, irrespective of the number of minutes played, the result of the match shall be reviewed and determined by the organising committee (or its delegate). The organising committee (or its delegate) may order the match to be replayed in accordance with game regulation 18.5 - next available weekend and shall have precedence over all other matches except CB senior cup competition, rfu cup competition and representative matches - and/or impose such other sanction as it deems appropriate.
All nice and clear! Basically NCA can decide the what, when and by how much to resolve this situation.

Whatever happens re the result, Cambridge RFC should pay a hefty penalty.  What's going on at Cambridge?  It's hardly soccer when you need three coppers per fan, but if they are unable to provide enough security to keep an eye on the players wallets they're not fit to host rugby games.  However the result stands, dock Cambridge at least 5 points and make them pay compensation to the players.

from a woman's point of view a wedding ring cannot be compensated for what a disgrace what is the world coming to - wallets, mobile phones, jewellery & wedding rings. I think Cambridge should lose at least 5 points.  just so it will make them review their security

you can't blame cambridge really for the theft (provided it wasn't them directly stealing which of course I assume it wasnt). every club in the land has a system to deal with 'valies'. I guess the reds got a bit complacent.

As I say it has happened to our team while playing. It happened to the opposition as well. I was always surprised that people would commit their valuables to what were obviously rather weak security arrangements. I was also surprised at the number who would arrive with valuable valuables in the first place. I took the absolute minimum with me - home or away.

It is difficult to have a system that is completely foolproof, whatever the arrangements.

I've found that changing room security varies considerably from ground to ground.  I think many clubs including ours may tighten up security after last weeks' events.  It's difficult because sometimes during the game you have to get into the changing room to obtain skull caps, gum shields, contact lens etc for the players and usually one person holds the key.

Sorry, tumbler, I really disagree here.  Who else is responsible for security, if not the club?

they have disclaimers up - if you go to the Twilight zone and some one ends up punching you who gets done? the TL Zone or the bloke who hit you?

There were a spate of robberies in the Surrey area a couple of seasons ago with a bloke walking into club bars 5 mins from the end of the game pretending to be from the oppo and nicking the who bundle of valies.

The age old way is to put all valies into a sock then put them into a team valies bag. This is done as soon as you enter the changing room.

When we play away the valies bag is left with the team manager. When at home they go into a locker and only one person is allowed to retieve them after the match (in our case Dickon Moon). this is a strict rule to avoid imposters.

I really feel for thedruth lads but I think its a bit harsh to blame CRFC for the locals who decided to rob their club!

Our system was similar to tumblers. At Caldy they would be left with the 'man of the day' and usually left behind the bar where they would be safe - possibly in the safe. I don't think we quite had the security of LC though.

There was one club - I think Rhuthun (or Ruthin if you prefer) or Denbigh - where the valuables were kept in the dressing room, with the door locked. This worked well until someone realized it was quite an easy job to smash the door open while the game was in progress.

I did manage to have my two front wheels stolen from the car in the early 1980s. That was good fun! I never did get them back. it did mean that I had to go back to bar and I a drink. Well, I wasn't able to drive home.
