Yep fair do's Mounts Bay appears to have had the last laugh here. I know for a fact that the players at Maidenhead were annoyed with the website giving MB their team talk before the cup encounter last season following our home league win. (I know because I'm one of them.)

If I'm honest you boys were just as bad on this website in the lead up to us coming down to the Mennaye. Inspiring us to a 19-18 'stuffing'.

Website shenannigens apart, winning down at your place was one the proudest achievements of my rugby career and looking at the league tables now you'd never guess that we did the league double over you only 12 months ago. Still, well done to you and good luck in National 2.

As for us, I'll take it as a compliment that you still look up our scores. Hopefully we'll get out of this losing streak before you lose us down in the depths of SW2.

I have to put my hands up to a few of those "shenanigans", Shrek, but all meant in the best possible taste, of course! smile/angel.gif. All in all, a very fair-minded post; I'll raise a glass to that smile/beer.gif

Shrek, a big hello.

I am not a 'proper' Mounts Bay member, having arrived here from Caldy - we played them in the Intermediate cup semi-final.

My memory is of your coach being a complete pill*ck on here, which started the ball rolling. I am a 'neutral' but I found what he was saying out of order. If it was done to set up a situation to win the leagues games it certainly worked.

Your future, I would suggest, is in your own hands with games away to Reading and Coney Hill. Victory in those would surely mean survival. I wish you, and most of the people associated with the club, well. An exception is that coach, if he is still with you. Is he as bad as he made himself out to be, or was it a temporary aberration?

I'm not going to make any personal attack on anybody.  I'd just like to say 'The home of south-west rugby'.
Hmmm.  No.

I'd be interested to find out the distances between;
a)  Maidenhead and Lands End
b)  Maidenhead and Great Yarmouth

Merely to compare and contrast, doncherknow.

Dave, I can't help but feel you're being a little harsh on yourself - I'm sure several people would insist that you're a complete member!

In fact, our coach of the time has stepped down now but is still involved at the club.

As for the 'home of South West Rugby' I don't know why we're in the South West when we're only 30 mins from London Paddington. I don't know where that title comes from either, I only heard it when I read the over-excited article calling you guys 'Mounts who?' after we won (and only 5 days before we played you in the cup, again not clever.)

All in all it was a daft chapter for both clubs. From my point of view I just wanted to come on here and stick up for Maidenhead which in the main is the same as any other club in the land but seems to have not endeared itself to you on that occasion.

Fingers crossed for survival.

Fair play, Shrek. As one of those who has kept this alive I appreciate your balanced comments.  I think it was the "Mount's who?" comment that got to me most  It was just unnecessarily disrespectful - and just looked even more stupid in the light of subsequent events and results!

Teams and supporters coming to turn over MBRFC would be wise to learn from Ealing's team and supporters. They arrived in PZ confident but quiet - took a lot of ribbing about their "wasted trip" and then proceeded to beat us fair and square.  They then took the p**s out of us for our hubris, but they did it with genuine warmth and friendship.

Shrek, I think we now all hope you stick around - by you I mean club and you personally on here.

The interesting thing with Ealing was that in advance of the first game they had a bad press from elsewhere. I am told (because not being a proper member - and long ago having learned to ignore any comment that from the quill of the chairman or thetreasurer - I can only go on what I am told) that Ealing looked after the Boarding Party royally. Ealing are now one of MB's favourite clubs.

On the theme of complete members -  a little off-topic this, but....
Did anyone see any of the series a couple of years ago on Hollywood 'this that and the other'? One of the programmes was on plastic surgery. Some of the operations had gone wrong, none more so than the bloke who wanted a bigger member. Anyway the operation failed and his life as a Casanova failed with it. I though the interviewer missed the chance to use a great line: When the bloke broke down in tears at his predicament, the interviewer should have said to him 'never mind son, keep your pecker up', instead of which he just commiserated with him.

As regards me being a complete member, well it could be worse. I could have a wife called Lorena. She was a cut above the rest I believe.

Possibly, she certainly severed all connection with her husband John Bob. It was a cruel thing to do if you ask me.

After losing 32-5 to Reading on Saturday last, Maidenhead are now in a relegation spot in SW1.

Just bear in mind that most at Maidenhead will be 'OK' types. It was the coach last year who was a pain. Make friends on the way up and you will keep them on the way down - something of which the Maidenhead coach did not seem aware.

Coney Hill play host to Maidenhead on April 19th.  Losers will be relegated to SW2

Yes we lost. I have the bruises and aching legs to prove it.

Camped on their line for the last 10 minutes needing only 5 points, but their defence was too good. You get what you deserve in this sport, they stayed up and we went down.

I realise this will please many of you. But what the hell.
Good luck next season, you know I'll be looking out for your scores next season and I wish you all the best.

Here's to at least a season of Maidenhead being the 'Home of South West 2 East Rugby'

Shrek, I think you prove that there is life in Maidenhead. It was that coach you had last year who helped to foster the rather frosty relationship between the two clubs. I for one wish you well next year.

"Maidenhead itself is too snobby to be pleasant... It is the town of showy hotels, patronised chiefly by dudes and ballet girls," claimed Jerome K Jerome in 'Three Men in a Boat'
