I think we have done several tree puns on an earlier thread. I will be sick of more.

Decision is I believe, subject to appeal, Cambridge fined £1500, game to be replayed and Redruth deducted 10 points.

arfur, that seems a bit harsh all round, but I suppose there is a prescribed tariff.

The WMN has a story on Redruth's fate on the following: http://www.thisiswesternmorningnews.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=248262&command=displayContent&sourceNode=248257&contentPK=18563384&folderPk=83110&pNodeId=249117&bustcache=&1191499098562#views Personally I think it would be disgraceful if Redruth was treated this harshly. I have had my fourpenn'orth on the WMN article but if others agree perhaps we should all make a noise about this to the "powers that be" and express our outrage

it is a crazy amount of points - anyone know if the reds plan to appeal? |

Reds' website says it is waiting for all the papers so it can consider an appeal. I'd be surprised if they don't appeal.

NCA Decision on Cambridge Redruth game 03 Oct 07 Following the events of last saturday, the NCA having received the report of the referee, have made a decision. That the game be replayed.Provisional date 12/1/07, subject to postponement should either club still be involved in the National Cup. That Cambridge be fined £1500.(inadequate security measures) That Redruth be deducted 10 points, for failing to take the field and complete the match, having been asked to do so by the referee. Suffice to say that as a club we are very disappointed with this decision and are carefully considering our position relative to an appeal. Cambridge Rugby Club

I'm biased but I think 10 points is harsh, much better just award the game to Cambridge, they were almost certain to win anyway. Redruth having to travel again is the same as a fine of about £4000, so the club has been hit twice. Should Cambridge have been fined? They had to have some punishment as this happened only last year against Nuneaton, and they have taken no measures to increase security. |

Did they get fined last year, Pasty? Another point is did they refund entry fees (assuming they had a paying crowd)?

I am sorry guys but this is an absolute disgrace. I know you rugby guys are quite macho peeps, but at the end of the day would you continue a game when your wedding ring had been filched? apart from the sentimental value, what is the wife going to say when you get home? 10 points for Reds is far too harsh, & if what Pasty says is true that this has happened before then the whole "punishment" should lie with Cambridge. If there is a prescribed tarriff then it should be scrapped, & each situation judged accordingly. I thank you |

To go back to my earlier point I would not entrust my valuables to most systems that I have ever seen in place at rugby clubs. While they are better than just leaving them lying round, there is always some risk involved. I never took such as credit cards with me. If ever I took anything half-way valuable I would leave it if possible with someone known to me who was not playing. Sometimes I would think that it was safer to leave things - such as car keys or enough money for the day - hidden in the bowels of my kit-bag that leave it with the system in operation at some clubs. I would presume Redruth went by coach with full 'management' staff, and wonder why valuables are not left with one of those staff. If I had something of real sentimental value I certainly would never consider taking it to a rugby club in the first place, if it were not in my possession the entire time. We do not know the facts of what happened at Cambridge, other than it did happen. --Last edited by DaveH on 2007-10-05 14:28:42 --

Apparently a similar thing happened to the Camborne team last season. But the thief on seeing the name Camborne on the kit bags felt sorry for them, coming from a third world town and all. So instead of pinching anything he put valuables in. |

According to Redruths website, the appeal is to be held (well it has happened now) today at Stourbridge RFC, where Cambridge are having their hearing too. I've heard nothing yet, but I hope it went well for the Reds.

I understand the appeal was a bit argumentative, decision not announced but points reduction could be increased!!
